Intoxicated girl from new wave pool night club narrowly missed hitting a resident walking her two dogs yesterday at 7:13 pm.
The driver was drinking at the Wai Kai's "The Line Up” the wave surf bar which opened 5 days ago.
Unknown to Hoakalei residents is that the bar turns into a nightclub in the evening until 10 pm.
The driver was racing two other cars reportedly exceeding 70mph on Keoneula Boulevard (posted intersection speed 15 mph) when she lost control of her car at the intersection with Kamakana street after hitting the speed bump (speed table) flipping the car on the side and ending up the front lawn. The two other racing cars fled the scene.
The loud crash brought many residents outside. A local resident walking her two dogs heard the roar of the car skidding towards her and quickly rushed away. The car came to a complete stop exactly where the resident was previously was standing. Her quick action probably saved her life. Sobriety test at the crash scene and then handcuffed and arrested the driver.
As a resident since 2015, I have heard many cars and motorcycles race on Keoneula blvd between kapolei parkway to Kamakana usually late Friday and Saturday nights and early morning hours. It's a long straight segment
Three years ago a speeding car almost ended up crashing into my front bedroom. The only thing that prevented it was a light pole which was destroyed and replaced.
Last year, a car racing on Kamakana street flipped over on its roof 100 feet from Keoneula. Also last year, a car lost control speeding and drifting on Keoneula Blvd at the Kamakana intersection ending up on the median.
Earlier this year, I was nearly hit crossing kapolei parkway in a marked crosswalk near Keoneula blvd intersection. The driver not only saw me but accelerated. And just drove away.
The opening of Wai Kai Wave Club, bar, nightclub, restaurant and outdoor concert venue has already increased the volume of cars significantly in just the first 5 days.
Before someone is seriously injured or killed on Keoneula boulevard, recommend preventive actions:
1. More speed bumps
2. Wai Kai conduct staff training to identify signs of intoxication.
3. increase police presence on keoneula.
4. Install Speed ticket cameras on Keoneula Boulevard
This is completely preventable if acted on now.
The community reached out to the mayor's office, Council Tupola , rep David alcos and senator Kurt fevella but received no response.
